Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need a permit?
All new installations definitely require a permit. Any alterations to plumbing/ gas systems typically require a permit. A permit is not required for general repairs.

  • How much do you charge for service?
We have a service call fee of $75.00 for travel time and mileage plus an hourly rate charge. Calls from outside the Edmonton area will be billed a mileage charge and hourly rate in lieu of the service call fee.

  • What is a backflow prevention device?
Backflow preventers are devices that prevent domestic water from flowing backwards into the water distribution network. EPCOR currently requires commercial customers to prove compliance annually.

  • What is the recommended lifespan of a domestic water heater?
Depending on water quality and maintenance history, water heaters can last from 15 to 30 years. Some water heaters are known to last even longer. However, older units are usually less efficient than newer models.

  • Is a tankless water heater better or more environmentally friendly?
A tankless water heater heats the water as you use it, unlike the continuous heating required for a large standing tank. Therefore it is both energy saving, cost effective and environmentally sound. However, tankless water heaters may not be suitable for every application.

  • Do you recommend a low flow toilet?
Definitely. However, some styles perform better than others and certain manufacturers have a better track record than others. Choose a quality brand as it will pay off in the long run.

  • Would it be different, if I purchased a product myself?
When items are purchased and installed through us, they are warranted by us.

  • Why should I consider a maintenance program?
Here are six reasons why you should choose us for your maintenance program:
    1. Cost Savings – You will save money by keeping equipment running at their peak performance levels. This in turn takes less energy, saves on service calls, reduces breakdowns and maintains your warranty.
    2. Warranty – All equipment manufacturers require regular maintenance to ensure that their warranty remains valid. Failure to do so may result in the warranty becoming void.
    3. Comfort – Regular visits ensure that your equipment operates as it was designed and intended to. Your employees will appreciate the resulting comfort in their working environment.
    4. Compliance – Some laws require equipment to be maintained on a regular basis, such as backflow preventers. We can include this in our maintenance package.
    5. Peace of mind –  You won’t have to worry about extra costs that occur due to sudden breakdowns, such as after hours service calls, emergency acquisition of parts and loss of production.
    6. Efficiency – Equipment that runs at its peak performance level utilizes the least amount of energy. Regular maintenance ensures that your equipment works at their optimum level, enabling other connected equipment to work according to their capacity and removing stress on related components.
